Linalool

CAUTION, Same story as limonene: weak on its own, a real sensitizer once oxidized. Common cause of fragrance contact allergy.

What it is

A floral terpene alcohol (CAS 78-70-6) found in lavender and hundreds of plants.

In this product: Light floral fragrance note.

Dose & route, what actually matters

Fresh linalool is a weak sensitizer; its air-oxidation hydroperoxides are the potent allergens and are part of standard EU patch-test panels.

EUROPEAN UNION

Named-disclosure fragrance allergen (Annex III); reaffirmed by Reg. (EU) 2023/1545.

UNITED STATES

No individual disclosure required.

The evidence

Hydroperoxides of linalool are a recognized contact allergen; ~10% of contact-dermatitis patients reacted to limonene/linalool hydroperoxides, more often women and those over 40.

How to avoid it
