Pectin
The fiber from apple peels and citrus, modified to enter your bloodstream and chelate metals throughout the body. Gentle enough for children and long-term use.
Quick Facts
Also Called
Modified Citrus Pectin, MCP, Apple Pectin
Tradition
Modern (folk use of apples for health)
Primary Use
Gentle heavy metal binding, gut support
Form
Powder, capsules (modified form)
What It Is
Pectin is a soluble fiber found in the cell walls of fruits, especially apples and citrus peels. In its natural form, pectin molecules are too large to be absorbed, they stay in the gut and gel up (that's how jam sets).
Modified citrus pectin (MCP) is pectin that's been enzymatically processed to break it into smaller fragments. These fragments are small enough to enter the bloodstream, where they can bind and remove heavy metals from tissues throughout the body, not just the gut.
How It Works
- →Systemic chelation: Modified pectin enters bloodstream and binds metals in tissues, not just gut
- →Galectin-3 blocking: MCP binds galectin-3, a protein linked to cancer metastasis and fibrosis
- →Lead binding: Clinical trials show MCP reduces blood and urine lead levels without depleting essential minerals
- →Gut health: Prebiotic effect, feeds beneficial bacteria while binding toxins
Traditional Use
Folk wisdom:"An apple a day keeps the doctor away" has some basis in pectin. Traditional use of apples for digestive health and gentle detoxification.
Modern research: Isaac Eliaz, MD, pioneered MCP research. Studies show it reduces lead levels by 74% in children and 130% in adults without affecting calcium, magnesium, or zinc.
Post-Chernobyl: Apple pectin was given to children in Belarus to help remove radioactive cesium after the disaster.
Dosing Protocol
Modified Citrus Pectin
5-15g daily, divided into 2-3 doses. Take between meals with water. Higher doses for active detox.
Children
1-5g daily depending on age. MCP is one of the safest binders for children.
Duration
Safe for long-term use. Most protocols run 6-12 months. Can be used ongoing for maintenance.
Contraindications
- • Very few, one of the safest binders available
- • Regular pectin (not modified), works only in gut, doesn't reach circulation
- • Take away from medications, may reduce absorption
- • High doses may cause temporary digestive changes
