Humic Acid
The larger sibling of fulvic acid, too big to enter cells, but perfect for binding toxins in the gut. Where fulvic transports, humic traps.
Quick Facts
Also Called
Humates, Part of Humic Substances
Tradition
Shilajit (Ayurveda), Soil Science
Primary Use
Gut toxin binding, viral inhibition, immune support
Form
Powder, capsules, liquid, shilajit
What It Is
Humic acid is the larger fraction of humic substances, organic compounds from decomposed plant matter. While fulvic acid is small enough to enter cells, humic acid molecules are much larger. This isn't a limitation, it's a feature.
Because humic acid stays in the gut, it acts as a powerful binder for toxins, pathogens, and die-off material. It has also shown remarkable ability to block viral attachment to cells, research shows it can inhibit many enveloped viruses.
How It Works
- →Gut binding: Large molecular structure stays in GI tract, binding heavy metals, mycotoxins, and bacterial toxins
- →Viral inhibition: Research shows humic acid can prevent viral attachment to cells, particularly enveloped viruses
- →Immune modulation: Stimulates immune response while reducing excessive inflammation
- →Gut lining support: May help repair intestinal permeability (leaky gut)
Traditional Use
Shilajit:Traditional Ayurvedic use of shilajit includes both fulvic and humic acids. Called "the destroyer of weakness" and "conqueror of mountains."
Peat therapy: European spa traditions have used humic-rich peat baths for centuries for skin conditions, arthritis, and general vitality.
Modern research:Studies on humic acid's antiviral properties began in the 1970s. It's shown activity against HIV, herpes, influenza, and other enveloped viruses in vitro.
Dosing Protocol
Powder/Capsules
200-400mg, 2-3x daily on empty stomach. Start low and increase gradually.
Liquid
Follow product instructions, concentration varies widely. Usually 15-30 drops, 1-2x daily.
Best Combined
Often most effective when combined with fulvic acid, humic binds in gut, fulvic reaches cells. Many products contain both.
Contraindications
- • Source quality is critical, poor sources contain contaminants
- • Medications, take 2+ hours apart; humic binds many substances
- • Autoimmune conditions, may stimulate immune system; monitor response
- • Pregnancy/breastfeeding, insufficient safety data
