Hemp Seed & CBD: Endocannabinoid Repair for the Awakening Nervous System
The seed feeds the membrane. The cannabinoid tunes the signal. Two outputs from the same plant, both decriminalized, both essential when the nervous system is being asked to do something it has never done before.
Quick Facts
Cannabis sativa L. (industrial hemp cultivars, <0.3% THC)
Cannabaceae
Hulled seed (food); flower/leaf extract standardized to CBD (medicine)
Cool, moist, sweet (seed); cool, neutral (CBD)
Nutritive, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, endocannabinoid modulator
Anxiety, insomnia, inflammation, neurological symptoms, kundalini overactivation, EFA deficit
What It Is
Cannabis sativa gives us two distinct medicines that come from two different parts of the same plant. Treat them as separate tools.
Hemp seed is the nut-like fruit of the hemp plant. Hulled, it is one of the most complete plant foods on earth: 25-30% protein with all nine essential amino acids in good ratios, 30-35% oil with omega-6 (linoleic acid) to omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) at roughly 3:1, plus a meaningful share of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA). The seed is not psychoactive and contains negligible cannabinoids.
CBD (cannabidiol) is the second-most abundant cannabinoid in the flower of hemp cultivars. Non-psychoactive. Does not bind CB1 strongly; instead it modulates the endocannabinoid system through indirect mechanisms, inhibiting fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), allosteric modulation of CB1, agonism at 5-HT1A and TRPV1, antagonism at GPR55.
Two Plants, Two Jobs
- • Hemp seed = food. Membrane-building EFAs, protein, magnesium, zinc. Daily food, not a dose.
- • CBD isolate = single-molecule pharmacology. THC-free, easiest to predict.
- • Broad-spectrum CBD = CBD plus minor cannabinoids (CBG, CBC, CBN) and terpenes, with THC removed. The "entourage effect" without the federal headache.
- • Full-spectrum CBD = the whole plant chemistry including <0.3% THC. Most clinically active; can trigger drug tests.
How It Works
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is the largest neuromodulatory network in the body. Discovered in the 1990s, it runs on two endogenous lipids, anandamide and 2-AG, that bind CB1 (mostly CNS) and CB2 (mostly immune) receptors. Almost every other regulatory system in the body talks to the ECS.
Five Mechanisms
Neurons are made of phospholipids. Hemp seed delivers the linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids that downstream become EPA, DHA, and arachidonic acid, the substrate of every synaptic membrane and every prostaglandin.
CBD inhibits the enzyme that breaks down anandamide, your endogenous bliss molecule. The result is elevated tonic endocannabinoid signaling without exogenous receptor flooding.
At physiological doses, CBD acts as a partial agonist at 5-HT1A, the same target as buspirone. This underwrites the anxiolytic and antidepressant effects observed in human trials.
The capsaicin receptor. CBD modulates TRPV1 to reduce neuropathic pain and chronic inflammatory pain at central and peripheral sites.
FDA-approved as Epidiolex for Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes. Mechanism includes GPR55 antagonism and modulation of T-type calcium channels. Clinical evidence is the strongest the cannabinoid field has.
Kundalini & Awakening Support
Jana Dixon places Cannabis in a complicated position. Smoked or eaten THC is mostly counterproductive during active kundalini, it amplifies the very dysregulation the protocol is trying to integrate. But hemp seed and CBD are a different story.
- •Membrane substrate for myelin rebuild, kundalini is, in part, a rewiring of myelin sheaths under higher voltage. Hemp seed delivers the EFAs that make myelin physically possible.
- •ECS tone for the sympathetic surge, CBD smooths the over-firing without sedating the awakening itself. It does not blunt insight; it widens the floor.
- •Anti-anxiety without serotonergic shutdown, unlike SSRIs (which Dixon flags as suppressive of the awakening process), CBD raises endogenous anandamide tone rather than flooding the system.
- •Anticonvulsant ceiling, some kundalini activations produce subclinical seizure-like activity. CBD raises the seizure threshold and has done so reliably in pediatric epilepsy trials.
- •Inflammation control during pranic surges, neuroinflammation is what turns a productive activation into a chronic dysautonomic crisis. CBD suppresses microglial overactivation.
The use rule in Dixon-style protocols: hemp seed daily as food; CBD nightly during the acute phase; avoid THC. Reassess CBD use every 4 weeks for tolerance and dose creep.
Detox Benefits
- •Phase II glucuronidation cofactor, CBD is glucuronidated by the same liver pathway as many environmental toxins; daily hemp protein supports the conjugation substrate.
- •Bowel motility and lubrication, hemp seed delivers fiber, magnesium, and EFAs that keep elimination consistent during heavy detox loads.
- •Bile flow support, the EFA load stimulates bile, which is the actual exit route for fat-soluble toxins.
- •Mast cell stabilization (CBD), important for MCAS-driven Herxheimer reactions and mold detox flares.
Dosing Protocol
Hulled Hemp Seed (Hearts)
- • 3-6 Tbsp/day on salads, oats, smoothies
- • Delivers ~15-30 g protein, ~10-20 g fat, including ~2-4 g ALA
- • Store refrigerated, the oil oxidizes
- • Cold use only; do not cook
Hemp Seed Oil (Cold-Pressed)
- • 1-2 Tbsp/day, refrigerated, on finished food only
- • Heat destroys the omega-3 fraction within minutes
- • Use within 90 days of opening
CBD, Anxiolytic / Sleep Dose
- • Start: 25 mg sublingual, 1-2x daily
- • Therapeutic range: 25-100 mg/day total
- • Sublingual oil bypasses first-pass metabolism; gummies and capsules are roughly 4x weaker per mg
- • Titrate up by 25 mg every 3-4 days
CBD, Neurological / Anticonvulsant Range
- • Pharmacological range: 5-20 mg/kg/day (Epidiolex dosing)
- • This is prescription-territory dosing, work with a clinician
- • Drug-drug interaction risk rises sharply above 100 mg/day
Contraindications & Cautions
- ⚠CYP450 interactions: CBD inhibits CYP3A4 and CYP2C19 at higher doses, raising levels of warfarin, certain SSRIs, statins, immunosuppressants, anticonvulsants. Review every prescription.
- ⚠Liver enzyme elevation: Documented in trial subjects on high-dose CBD with valproate. Monitor LFTs if >50 mg/day chronically.
- ⚠Drug testing: Full-spectrum CBD can produce positive THC results. Choose isolate or broad-spectrum if tested.
- ⚠Pregnancy & lactation: Hemp seed food is safe; CBD is not recommended due to inadequate safety data.
- ⚠Heavy metal contamination: Cannabis is a notorious bioaccumulator. Buy only third-party tested product.
- ⚠Surgery: Stop CBD 1-2 weeks before due to CYP interaction with anesthetics.
