Liposomal vs Regular Glutathione

Glutathione is the "master antioxidant" — but oral forms get destroyed by stomach acid. Liposomal delivery changes that. Here's what actually matters.

MadWorldDetox Quick Verdict

For absorption:

Liposomal wins decisively. Regular oral is largely destroyed.

For budget:

NAC (precursor) is cheaper and well-absorbed — consider that.

Best form:

Liposomal or IV. Regular oral is not worth it.

Alternative:

S-acetyl glutathione (acetylated) also survives digestion.

The Absorption Problem

Why Regular Glutathione Doesn't Work

Glutathione is a tripeptide (three amino acids). Stomach acid and digestive enzymes break it apart before it can be absorbed. You're essentially just eating expensive amino acids. Some may contribute to glutathione production eventually, but direct glutathione absorption? Minimal.

This is why IV glutathione is popular in clinics — it bypasses digestion entirely. Liposomal delivery is the oral alternative.

How Liposomal Delivery Works

Liposomes are tiny phospholipid spheres — the same material as cell membranes. Glutathione is wrapped inside these spheres, protecting it from stomach acid. The liposomes fuse with intestinal cells and deliver glutathione directly into cells. Much higher absorption than regular oral forms.

  • Phosphatidylcholine: The lipid wrapper (also beneficial for liver)
  • Cell fusion: Liposomes merge with cell membranes
  • Intracellular delivery: Glutathione gets inside cells where needed

Other Options to Consider

NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

Precursor to glutathione. Well-absorbed orally, cheaper, raises glutathione levels by providing the rate-limiting amino acid. Good budget option.

S-Acetyl Glutathione

Acetylated form that survives stomach acid. Another option that's better absorbed than regular reduced glutathione.

IV Glutathione

Direct injection bypasses all absorption issues. Most effective but requires clinic visits and is expensive.

Glutathione Precursor Stack

NAC + glycine + glutamine — all three glutathione amino acids. Let your body build its own. Effective and economical.

Quality Liposomal Products

  • Quicksilver Scientific: Gold standard, nano-liposomal
  • LivOn Labs Lypo-Spheric: Packets, well-researched
  • Pure Encapsulations: Liposomal capsules
  • ReadiSorb: Liquid liposomal

Note: Quality varies significantly. True liposomal products are more expensive. Cheap "liposomal" products may just be glutathione in oil, not actual liposomes.
